A person who laced treats with sedative and gave them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two boys who were between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at the facility in July.
The senior citizen, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit one particular crime he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.
The defendant was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on November 28th.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
Ruben played a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.
She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had worries in July 2025.
The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.
"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."
Mrs Prior KC said objects including infant oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepchild alerted the authorities about his suspicions.
She stated the defendant continued to conduct the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative explained the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson notified the police a second time.
She explained the man then played the "candy game" in a area of five children.
